Biological Scientist II
Classification Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in biology or a related field and three years of experience, or a Master's degree in biology or a related field with one year of relevant experience.
Job Description The Biological Scientist II will perform research in the laboratory of Dr. Barry Byrne, MD, PhD in the Department of Pediatrics - Child Health Research Institute (CHRI).
Duties Animal Studies
Handling mice for setting up timed matings, weaning animals and maintaining rodent colonies.
Participate in treating animals with pharmacological agents or AAV vectors via i.p., i.m., or i.v. injection.
Conduct echocardiography, sensory and motor function, force mechanics, and metabolic studies.
Collect organs and other tissue and embed specimens for sectioning or molecular analyses.
Molecular Techniques And Analysis
Molecular cloning, plasmid purification, primer design, RNA and DNA isolation.
Perform real-time PCR and PCR genotyping of transgenic mouse lines.
Conduct in vitro studies exploring novel vectors in various cells, including expansion and maintenance of cell lines.
Perform protein analysis by isolating protein of interest and analyzing western blots.
Project Management And Data Analysis
Coordinate ordering of supplies in advance of experimental needs.
Assist in supervising or directing the work of laboratory personnel and advising them on laboratory methods.
Uphold laboratory safety policy compliance of all members and assist with regulatory compliance (EHS, IACUC, etc.).
Compile experimental data for presentation in various formats (GraphPad, Excel, etc.).
Perform various tasks as assigned.
Expected Salary $46,000 - $52,000 annually; commensurate within this range based on qualifications and experience.
Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in biology or a related field and three years of experience, or a Master’s degree in biology or a related field with one year of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Extremely knowledgeable in laboratory procedures and meticulous in recording, tracking and reporting of data collected.
B.S. degree in a related scientific field; Masters preferred.
Doctoral degree in biology or a closely related field; or a master's degree in biology or a closely related field and one year of relevant experience; or a bachelor's degree in biology or a closely related field and three years of relevant experience.
