Overview The Mechanical Engineer II provides mechanical engineering expertise in the early stages of design. They also coordinate project design and analyze complex construction problems. This role will be involved primarily designing small form‑factor plug‑in modules (PIM) compliant to VITA standards (VPX, VNX) for aerospace and defense applications. Must be onsite in Huntsville, AL.
Responsibilities KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop comprehensive mechanical designs with a working knowledge of the other engineering disciplines' responsibilities
Technical lead to support project teams as required from initial design to production
Perform diligent analyses (thermal, structural, tolerance, etc.) with minimal guidance
Create and review engineering documentation packages
Provide inputs to engineering design reviews including calculations, analyses, drawings, etc. to show compliance to specifications and project objectives and standards
Interact with customers and vendors as necessary based on project scope; makes presentations to communicate engineering findings
Willing to apply a generally hands‑on approach to inspect, modify, and assemble mechanical and electrical hardware
Design and procure supporting mechanical fixturing for test and development platforms
Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Related Field of Study
Minimum 2 years of experience in a specialized functional discipline.
Experience navigating layout tools (ex: Altium, Expedition, Cadence)
Understanding of end‑to‑end product design and manufacturing process starting from concept through production; Manufacturing knowledge to include fabrication of custom mechanical parts as well as general PCB construction and CCA assembly process
Have a good understanding of sensitive electronics handling and packaging
Understanding of configuration management within a revision‑controlled environment such as a file vault or PLM system
Intermediate experience with mixed signal designs (digital and RF) with understanding of board level signal isolation and EMI shielding
Preferred experience conducting environmental testing (thermal, shock, vibration, humidity, etc.) as well as test fixture design
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This position requires access to technology, materials, software or hardware that is controlled by either ITAR or EAR U.S. export laws. As a condition to this job offer, in order to be employed in this position, you must be able to obtain an U.S. Government export license(s), as required by law.
Pay Range:
$69,000 - $87,000 annually . Applicable pay within the posted range may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, geographical location, job function of the position, education, and experience of the successful candidate.
