Overview The Mechanical Engineer VI provides mechanical engineering expertise in the early stages of design and coordinates project design and analysis of complex construction problems. This role will primarily design small form‑factor plug‑in modules (PIM) compliant with VITA standards (VPX, VNX) for aerospace and defense applications. Must be onsite in Huntsville, AL.
Responsibilities
Provide overall project and technical guidance to the mechanical engineering department.
Perform expert analyses (thermal, structural, and tolerance) incorporating new subject matter and industry best practices.
Mentor ME IV and ME V employees by providing training, reviewing work, and offering overall project guidance; determine the direction for the mechanical engineering department.
Incorporate new technologies into the department to keep at the forefront of industry capabilities.
Provide insight to the team on how disciplines outside mechanical engineering impact their designs.
Provide inputs to engineering design reviews, including calculations, analyses, drawings, etc., to demonstrate compliance with specifications, project objectives, and standards.
Interact with customers and vendors as necessary based on project scope.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum 12 years of experience in a specialized functional discipline.
Experience navigating layout tools (e.g., Altium, Expedition, Cadence).
Understanding of end‑to‑end product design and manufacturing, from concept through production; manufacturing knowledge to include fabrication of custom mechanical parts as well as general PCB construction and CCA assembly process.
Understanding of sensitive electronics handling and packaging.
Understanding of configuration management within a revision‑controlled environment such as a file vault or PLM system.
Experience with mixed‑signal designs (digital and RF) with understanding of board‑level signal isolation and EMI shielding.
Preferred experience conducting environmental testing (thermal, shock, vibration, humidity, etc.) and test fixture design.
Additional Information
This position requires access to technology, materials, software, or hardware that is controlled by ITAR or EAR U.S. export laws. As a condition of this job offer, you must be able to obtain a U.S. Government export license(s) as required by law.
Pay Range: $140,000 – $200,000 annually. Applicable pay within the posted range may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, geographical location, job function, education, and experience of the successful candidate.
