Adjunct Faculty - Allied Health Nursing Studies - Registered Nurse Virginia Peninsula Community College, part of the Virginia Community College System, is a two‑year institution serving residents of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, Williamsburg, and the counties of James City and York.

This adjunct faculty position involves teaching up to 12 credit hours in the fall and spring semesters and/or up to 8 credit hours during the summer semester. The teaching load depends on student enrollment and staffing needs. Adjunct faculty are part of a standing pool from which the college draws as scheduling needs dictate. Instruction may occur during the day, evening, or weekend and may include lecture, lab, simulation, skills and/or clinical. Courses may cover a range of allied health nursing studies such as medical assisting, certified nurse aide, practical nursing, and registered nursing.

Work Schedule: Varied.

Essential Functions

Design and deliver instruction for day and evening classes.

Assess and grade students.

Maintain adequate on‑campus presence.

Communicate timely with students, staff, and administrators.

Special Assignments: may be required to perform other duties as assigned and to assist the agency or state government during an emergency declared by the Governor.

KSA's / Required Qualifications

Current unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse in Virginia or a higher medical license (Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner, or Medical Doctor).

Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing, Nursing Education, Nursing Administration, Health Informatics, or another related degree from a regionally accredited institution.

Current CPR certification and documentation of routine healthcare employee immunizations.

A passion for nursing and a commitment to a student‑centered philosophy supporting diverse learners.

Excellent interpersonal skills with students, colleagues, staff, and administrators.

Willingness to serve traditional and non‑traditional students.

Ability to adapt instructional methods to meet diverse student needs.

Plan and organize instruction to maximize documented student learning.

Use fair assessment methods to measure student progress toward outcomes.

Evaluate student performance fairly and return work promptly.

Maintain accurate records and submit final grade rosters to the division administrator each semester according to established deadlines.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Experience or strong interest in teaching adult learners and aligning with the college’s mission.

Ability to travel to both campuses and clinical sites.

Additional Considerations

Master’s Degree in Nursing, Nursing Education, Nursing Administration, Health Informatics, or related field.

Two years full‑time work experience as a registered nurse or higher medical license.

Teaching and/or preceptorship experience.

Experience with clinical simulation in nursing education.

Community college teaching experience.

Teaching experience in online, hybrid, and traditional face‑to‑face modalities.

Proficiency with instructional technologies and learning management systems (Canvas).

Demonstrated ability to assess and align student outcomes.
