Job Summary The Nurse Aide/Tech - Psychiatric provides direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of the psychiatric care unit nursing staff. The role includes assisting with activities of daily living, providing personal care, monitoring patient behavior, and maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment. The position requires the ability to effectively communicate with patients, staff, and visitors while adhering to hospital policies and behavioral health standards.

Essential Functions

Provides direct patient care to meet the psychosocial and physical needs of psychiatric patients

Assists in the admission, transfer, and discharge of patients

Monitors patient behavior, reports changes to the nursing staff, and documents observations

Assists with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, feeding, and toileting

Transports patients to various departments for diagnostic tests or treatment

Ensures patient rooms are clean, safe, and organized

Maintains accurate records and documents patient care activities according to hospital policies

Participates in patient treatment plans and therapeutic activities

Observes for environmental safety risks, including suicide prevention and infection control measures

Communicates effectively with patients, families, and the care team to foster a positive environment

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

Knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques and behavioral management

Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Ability to manage stressful situations and respond appropriately to behavioral crises

Knowledge of infection control procedures and safety protocols

Ability to lift and move patients and equipment as required

Demonstrates professionalism, reliability, and a commitment to patient care

Education

High school diploma or GED required

License/Certification

Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required per facility policy

Crisis Management/De-escalation Training required per facility policy

Blood Glucose Monitoring Training required per facility policy

Experience

Experience in a psychiatric care unit or behavioral health setting preferred
