RN - OR & PRE-OP/PACU - PRN

Essential Functions
Responsible for planning, executing, directing, and evaluating the nursing care given to the surgical patient during the preoperative and postoperative periods. This includes preparation, assembly, and organization of the environment, equipment, and supplies necessary for ambulatory surgical patient recovery.
Participate in the preparation of the patient for surgery. Conduct pre‑admission assessments, provide pre‑operative instructions, ensure all appropriate data is in the patient’s record before admission or procedure, and communicate abnormal or extensive medical history to the anesthesiologist.
Maintain communication with the reception area and OR/endoscopic rooms to assure efficient patient movement. Assist in preparing medications for blocks and/or local injections. Admit the patient in the pre‑op area and follow admission protocols.
Receive patients from OR/endoscopic rooms and assess their condition on admission and discharge, documenting in PACU records.
Observe and monitor post‑op patients by taking vital signs, EKG, and documenting progress while in PACU.
Administer medications, IVs, and treatments; maintain records of dispensing; observe patient reactions and act appropriately in case of adverse reactions.
Perform or assist the physician with sterile and non‑sterile dressing changes and other procedures as requested.
Assure patients that they will not be left alone in the recovery area. Provide a summary of post‑op instructions for discharge.
Ensure patients have a follow‑up appointment before discharge. Provide immediate respiratory assistance or support, including the use of an AMBU bag, airways, and endotracheal tubes; administer CPR; assist with defibrillation; and perform venipuncture in emergency situations.
Maintain knowledge of Code Blue/crash cart, recognize and utilize safety precautions and procedures, stay familiar with equipment and supplies, assist in restocking as needed, and maintain a comfortable, orderly, safe environment in the recovery area.
Perform other duties as deemed necessary.
Requirements
Graduate of an accredited School of Registered Nursing.
Active Florida RN license.
Minimum of one (1) year experience in PACU or Critical Care.
Current CPR, ACLS, and PALC certification.
