Description The Registered Nurse provides direct patient care that is guided by the American Nurses Association (ANA) scope of practice. A Registered Nurse collaborates with patients, family/significant others, peers, physicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in the delivery of healthcare services. The Registered Nurse assesses the patient’s needs, care plans, implements, and evaluates the medical and nursing regimens in accordance with hospital and nursing philosophy, policies/procedures, and standards. They demonstrate leadership skills and commitment to professional accountability and growth.

Responsibilities

Completes patient assessment and reassessment as clinically indicated.

Documents detailed information incorporating the plan of care, interventions, and outcomes reflecting the patient’s physical, mental, and emotional status.

Ensures appropriate documentation based on the level of care the patient is receiving, including transfer/discharge documentation as indicated.

Follows the five Rights of Medication Administration, verbalizes medication to patients/family/significant other, assesses prior to administering medications, noting allergies, parameters, potential side effects, effectiveness and intervenes as needed, and reassesses and documents response according to hospital policy.

Coordinates and supervises the delivery of nursing care, including delegation of tasks, and maintains accountability for delegated care.

Actively works to promote a culture of safety by assessing patients for potential safety risks, adhering to hospital policies and procedures, initiating interventions related to risk factors, conducting bedside shift report and rounds, demonstrating quality through nursing process documentation, and ensuring patient hand‑off during breaks.

Assesses learning needs of patient/family/significant other, plans and provides instruction, and documents response to teaching.

Cares for specific patient populations as necessary.

Delivers patient-centered care by embracing cultural diversity, respecting dignity, and maintaining open lines of communication with active listening.

Meets accreditation, regulatory, and compliance responsibilities related to the position.

Works to promote a culture of learning and growth by seeking experiences, formal and independent learning activities, and mentoring others.

Performs other duties as assigned within the state nursing scope of practice.

Education

Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ASRN)

Licensure and Certification

Current and unobstructed New York State Registered Nurse (NY Hospitals)

Current and unobstructed Connecticut Registered Nurse License (CT Hospitals)

New graduates awaiting licensure at the discretion of the Chief Nursing Officer (CT only)

American Nurses Association endorsed Certifications or Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses Certification preferred (based on specialty hours of work requirement).

Training Requirements

Required/Preferred Certifications

BLS – All Nursing Care Areas (Required upon hire)

ACLS – ED, ICU, CCU, SDU PCU, PACU, Cath Lab, GI, LDRP, IR, Float Pool (required upon hire)

PALS – ED, PACU, Pediatric Areas (or ENPC); required by end of orientation

ENPC – ED RN (either PALS or ENPC); required by end of orientation

NRP – MCH, NICU, LDRP, DR; required by end of orientation

EFM – LDRP; within 1 year of hire

TNCC – ED (required Danbury, Norwalk); within 1 year of hire

Cardiology focused units – required by end of orientation period

Working Conditions

Manual: Significant manual skills, motor coordination, and finger dexterity required.

Occupational: Some occupational risk.

Physical Effort: Medium to heavy effort; may exert up to 35 lbs force.

Salary Range: $41.00 - $76.16 hourly | Location: Rhinebeck, NY
