Pay Rate: $19.50 to $20.00 per hour (dependable on experience level).
Catholic Charities of Baltimore, Gallagher Services is currently seeking a Direct Support Professional who will provide physical, social, behavioral, career, and personal support to persons with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (IDD) living and working in the community. The DSP ensures that the human, civil, and legal rights of all people are protected by advocating, teaching, promoting dignity, and reasonable risk taking and following mandatory reporting guidelines for the supported population. Gallagher Services supports adults with IDD in living the life of their choice, with opportunities to live, work, and participate in the community as independently as possible.
The work schedule is: Mon – Fri 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Assist Job Coach by helping people practice work readiness and job-related skills; identify and facilitate volunteer work that is meaningful with the proper level of assistance to meet each person’s needs.
Day Services DSP position may include operating DOT vehicles and meeting the following specific requirements:
Passing a DOT physical.
Maintaining a current Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations; the employee is responsible for ensuring that the Medical Certificate remains current and will notify the Agency if it is not renewed.
Education & Driver Requirements
Driving (Agency and/or personal vehicle) is required for this position.
Must be at least 21 years of age, with a minimum of 2 years of driving experience and a valid driver’s license issued by the state of residence; there may be no state-issued restrictions on the license that would impede driving ability and no more than 3 points on the driving record.
Ability to drive multiple Agency vehicles following traffic rules and safety precautions, including safe driving and the ability to secure people who use wheelchairs.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
Ability to lift a minimum of 75 pounds, stand for periods of time, bend, push wheelchairs, provide physical intervention as necessary, and be able to lift and/or transfer people.
