Responsibilities
Apply knowledge of human anatomy, aseptic and sterile techniques, and phlebotomy equipment to perform blood collection procedures by venipuncture and capillary puncture, selecting the appropriate site based on patient condition, age group, and requested test.
Perform finger or heel sticks for micro‑samples on neonates to adults as required.
Select proper vacutainer tubes and use suitable needles, syringes, or butterfly collection devices to obtain appropriate specimens.
Accurately label all specimens, ensuring proper documentation for testing and promptly verify any incorrectly identified or submitted specimens with the relevant patient care unit, physician office, or outpatient clinic.
Assist with specimen handling and transport, including receiving and accessioning specimens, order entry, patient registration, and coordination of results from reference laboratories.
Assist laboratory technical staff with specimen inoculation onto growth media for bacteriology.
Provide service excellence and recover from service failures to support patients and stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) OR American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) registered phlebotomist OR National Healthcareer Association (NHA) certified phlebotomist.
Union CSEA – Civil Service Employees Association (MH). Note: Not all per diem roles are union eligible.
Physical Requirements M - Medium Work. Exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects; requires frequent walking, standing, or squatting.
Pay Range $16.70 – $22.49 per hour.
