Responsibilities
Perform venipunctures and skin punctures competently and expediently.
Collect blood and blood culture samples, along with non-blood specimens (urine, sputum, semen, throat swabs) and chain of custody specimens.
Consistently draw blood competently and expediently with minimal patient discomfort for patient groups ranging from neonates to geriatrics.
Properly label all specimens in the presence of the patient.
Operate basic laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, computer systems, labeling printers and scanners.
Communicate effectively and appropriately with patients, clients, and staff.
Perform clerical duties such as filing, report distribution, processing, and faxing.
Collect drug screens (internal and external) using Chain of Custody Process.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Phlebotomy Certification (CPT).
Six (6) months of phlebotomy experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Phlebotomy Certification (CPT).
Physical Requirements
Work requires strength and stamina; lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying materials and equipment weighing 40+ lbs.
Ability to bend, stoop, reach rotate normally, and stand and walk for the entire shift.
Working Environment
May require unsupervised access to restricted areas containing medications, supplies and confidential patient information.
May require travel between facilities/buildings.
May involve various shifts based on departmental needs.
Skills And Abilities
Computer proficiency: keyboard, monitor, mouse, calculator.
Computer software: PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
Use of fax machines, printers and other office equipment.
Scheduled Weekly Hours: 24
