Description of Work Salary Range: $35,984–62,971

Location: Mountain View Correctional Institution, Avery County, NC (medium custody male facility).

Manage a caseload of inmates, providing supportive counseling, conducting assessments, developing case plans.

Address and follow up on inmate questions and problems.

Make recommendations to the classification committee.

Assist in major dynamic programs or coordinate specialized programs such as work assignments, work release, education, and recreation.

Plan and coordinate transition (re-entry) before parole or release into the community.

Report to the Correctional Program Supervisor.

Management Preferences

Knowledge of supportive counseling and interviewing techniques.

Background check required for eligibility.

Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

Employment Details This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

Note to Current State Employees The salary grade for this position is NC07. State employees are encouraged to apply even if the salary grade is the same or lower than their current position. If selected, a new salary will be recalculated based on education, experience, funding availability, and internal equity. A pay increase MAY result.

Minimum Education And Experience Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Recreation or a related field, or high school or GED diploma with two years of custody experience within the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
