$35,984 – $62,971 (State Benefits, full‑time, 40 hours/week).

The position is located at Avery‑Mitchell Correctional Institution in Avery County, NC.
Responsibilities
Carry a caseload of inmates, providing supportive counseling and conducting assessments.
Develop case plans, answer and follow up on inmate questions and problems.
Make recommendations to the classification committee.
Management Preferences
Working knowledge of techniques of supportive counseling and interviewing.
Working knowledge of services available to individuals from the community and other public and private programs.
Applicants must pass a background check.
Education and Experience Minimum qualifications: Associate’s degree in criminal justice, human services, recreation, or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution; or high school or GED diploma plus two years of custody experience within the North Carolina Department of Public Safety; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Necessary special qualifications: Eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

If selected, a new salary will be recalculated considering education, experience, funding and internal equity. A pay increase may result.
