Assistant Professor of Developmental Psychology (Rank: Assistant Professor) Department: Psychology, California State University, Northridge (CSUN). Faculty Hire #: 26-22.

Effective Date of Appointment: August 19, 2026 (subject to budgetary approval). Anticipated hiring range: $73,000–$80,000 (dependent upon qualifications).

Position Overview The Department of Psychology seeks a tenure‑track faculty member in Developmental Psychology or a closely related field to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, conduct research, and engage in service. The incumbent will mentor students in the Psychological Science MA Program and contribute to the department’s commitment to inclusive excellence.

Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in development, including existing developmental cluster courses and development of new courses as requested.

Conduct research in developmental psychology that involves undergraduate and/or graduate students.

Mentor students in the psychology department graduate programs.

Provide weekly office hours, attend faculty meetings, participate in assessment of student learning, and serve the department, college, and university.

Required Qualifications

PhD in Developmental Psychology or a closely related field from an accredited institution (degree awarded before appointment date).

Evidence of, or clear potential for, excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in developmental psychology with equitable learning outcomes.

Evidence of, or clear potential for, excellence in research in developmental psychology or a closely related area that involves undergraduate and/or graduate students.

Demonstrated commitment to enhancing the educational environment for students from diverse and marginalized backgrounds.

Commitment to, and clear potential for, inclusively mentoring diverse and underrepresented undergraduate and graduate students.

Preferred Qualifications

Expertise that complements the existing strengths within the department.

A strong record of research contributions within the candidate’s area of specialization that incorporates contemporary approaches to developmental psychology.

A clear potential research program that can be successfully accomplished within the context of the university’s mission, values, and resources.

Experience in, or demonstrated potential for: creating a student‑centered and active learning environment and using culturally‑responsive teaching approaches that promote students’ understanding across diverse populations.

Engaging in professional development opportunities and/or service activities that build effectiveness in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
