The Field Associate II is a field-facing role responsible for contributing to an R&D Field Trial program in crops such as wheat, corn, soybean, and camelina, depending on the region. The role coordinates with growers on leased land space, assists with local staffing during in‑season activities, and conducts in‑season research activities such as phenotyping, study management, and data analytics review to support the R&D pipeline. It partners with other Field Associates on site and with cross‑site functions to improve data quality, SOPs, and compliance actions.

Responsibilities

Ensure safe and efficient operation of the research program in alignment with Bayer’s HSE, Quality, Compliance, Stewardship requirements, and Business Code of Conduct and Ethics Standards.

Collaborate with project team members to develop detailed experimental protocols that enable advancement decisions by scientists and product placement decisions for customers.

Use equipment such as tractors, specialized planters, modified commercial harvesters, commercial drones, and other digital tools to collect, analyze, and deliver agronomic data throughout the growing season.

Self‑motivate, problem‑solve, and make decisions regarding time, prioritization, and project management.

Build and leverage networks across diverse teams and establish partnerships with local community leaders, influencers, and growers.

Supervise and direct third‑party labor or seasonal staff to achieve trial and business objectives.

Communicate across teams and leaders, staying agile, open to change, and engaged in continuous learning.

Partner with manager on a targeted business and personal development goal plan aligned with Bayer’s Dynamic Shared Ownership values.

Travel up to 15% of the time, particularly during peak seasons.

Work extended hours during peak seasons, including non‑traditional day‑time hours and overnight travel.

Operate a company vehicle (pooled or assigned), potentially driving >5,000 business miles annually or frequently using a pooled car.

Meet region‑specific driving jurisdiction requirements (US DOT/FMCSA or Transport Canada) and obtain any required licenses or special authorizations for hauling trailers, supplies, or equipment.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree.

Strong technical aptitude and ability to work with connected systems and data management.

Experience working in a collaborative, team‑based environment.

Ability to learn and operate research agriculture equipment, including precision agriculture technology.

Knowledge of or ability to learn region‑specific crop production and farming practices.

Basic statistical analysis and experimental design knowledge.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Valid driver’s license; driving record must meet company Risk Screening for Hiring Drivers.

DOT medical card or ability to obtain one via successful completion of a DOT physical.

Meet all applicable DOT/FMCSA criteria and potential FMCSA safety checks.

Complete applicable pre‑employment requirements such as background check, drug test, and physical.

Ability to obtain Pesticide Applicator’s License.

Ability to obtain Drone Pilot’s License (FAA Part 107 Certification).

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in agronomy, life sciences, engineering, computer science, or related field, or Master’s Degree.

Experience in agricultural research, seed technology industry, or plant breeding.

Mechanical and IT aptitude.

Experience with precision agriculture hardware and software.

History of implementing continuous improvements and innovation.

CDL License (Class A).

Physical Demands

Ability to safely lift 50 lbs.

Work in conditions requiring sitting, standing, walking for extended periods.

Operate in high and low temperatures in a field setting.

Capable of working long hours, primarily during the peak busy field season.

Compensation:

Salary range between $58,498.40–$87,747.60. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Other benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc. The offer will vary based on market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
