Part‑time Registered Nurse (RN) – Pediatric Hematology. 20 hours per week, 8 hours/day for 2 days + 4 hours one day. Schedule may vary based on clinic need.

Job Summary The Registered Nurse (RN) is a licensed professional who uses the BSWH nursing professional practice model to coordinate patient care delivery by the health care team. Using the nursing process, the RN assesses the patient, identifies nursing diagnoses based on responses to health problems, develops and implements an individualized plan of care, and evaluates the patient’s response. The RN promotes safe passage for patients by applying knowledge of patient needs and the health‑care environment to assist patients to transition through the encounter without preventable complications or delays. The RN delegates interventions to health‑care personnel based on the Texas Nursing Practice Act, each patient’s condition and the competencies of the employee. The role applies to RNs in hospital inpatient and outpatient departments with 24×7 staffing, including those with on‑call staffing on off‑shifts (e.g., GI Lab, Pain Management, Dialysis, Infusion Centers, IV Services).
Essential Functions of the Role
Clinical Judgment: Conduct accurate assessments, identify and prioritize patient and family needs, develop, implement, evaluate and modify plans of care to meet clinical outcomes.
Clinical Inquiry: Evaluate the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, support evidence‑based changes, and participate in quality/performance improvement initiatives.
Caring Practices: Create a compassionate, safe and therapeutic environment; develop therapeutic relationships, maintain boundaries, and manage emotional and physical pain to promote comfort and healing.
Response to Diversity: Incorporate cultural, spiritual, gender, racial, ethnic, lifestyle, socioeconomic, age and value differences into individualized care plans.
Advocacy and Moral Agency: Preserve confidentiality, autonomy, dignity, and rights of patients and families, and resolve ethical and clinical concerns.
Facilitation of Learning: Facilitate learning for patients, families, staff, and community; integrate education throughout the continuum of care and document learning needs and outcomes.
Collaboration: Work collaboratively and interdependently with colleagues and community, delegate tasks appropriately, and ensure timely follow‑up.
Systems Thinking: Use strategies and available resources for problem solving, recognizing limited resources and considering safety, effectiveness, and efficiency in planning and delivery of care.
Professionalism: Participate in shared governance, staffing processes, and ongoing professional growth; contribute to peer development and demonstrate community service.
Key Success Factors
Knowledge of nursing and patient care standards, laws, rules, regulations, and accreditation guidelines.
Understanding of medical terminology and the principles of health promotion, risk reduction, disease prevention, medication management, and physiological effects.
Familiarity with nursing ethics, patient privacy rights, and effective communication.
Critical thinking, problem‑solving skills, and the ability to observe and communicate changes in patient condition.
Proficiency in age‑specific, patient‑centered care and in the nursing process to modify care plans as needed.
General computer skills: Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling, payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email.

Qualifications
Education: Graduate of an accredited program in Nursing.
Experience: 2 years of experience.
Certification / License / Registration: Registered Nurse (RN) with Basic Life Support (BLS). BLS required within 30 days of hire or transfer.
