Base pay range $150,000.00/yr - $180,000.00/yr

Position Overview Mount Saint Mary College School of Nursing offers a mission-driven environment for faculty and students. The Dean provides leadership, counsel, and advocacy for the nursing faculty, students, and staff, serving as the primary advocate in the college, community, and beyond. The Dean’s leadership is aligned with the college’s mission, academic values, and Dominican tradition, and focuses on monitoring trends in nursing education, strategic planning, program expansion, accreditation compliance, and community partnerships.

Responsibilities

Provide leadership, vision, and forward-directed inspiration for the School of Nursing and all programs in alignment with the college mission.

Act as liaison with internal and external constituencies, strengthening relationships with current and new healthcare partners.

Oversee community advisory board meetings to gather industry insights and ensure ongoing curriculum quality improvement.

Prepare annual reports to the NYS Education Department, CCNE, and internal School of Nursing reports.

Collaborate with the nursing chairperson and graduate coordinator, and with the Vice President for Academic Affairs, to hire nursing faculty and staff.

Encourage faculty growth through research, publication, and professional conference participation; mentor faculty in evaluation, promotion, tenure processes.

Oversee academic strategy and program delivery for BSN, RN-to-BSN, and MSN programs, including new program development and outcome evaluation.

Ensure rigor of programs to achieve excellence in NCLEX and graduate program credentialing scores.

Provide oversight of program outcomes and evaluations through continuous review of clinical needs, student survey data, retention and graduation rates, NCLEX scores, graduate competency exam rates, employment rates.

Maintain regular communication with faculty and staff through monthly School of Nursing faculty and staff meetings.

Prepare budget projections and manage budgets for all nursing programs.

Assign faculty representation at college events (e.g., Orientations, New Student Days, Open Houses) as indicated by the Chairperson.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Earned doctorate in Nursing or a related field required.

3+ years experience in nursing education; advanced degree program experience preferred.

Evidence of successful administrative experience and leadership as Dean, Assistant/Associate Dean, or Chairperson in baccalaureate and advanced degree programs.

Academic rank of at least Associate Professor.

Significant involvement in professional activities (research, national/international presentations, committee membership).

Commitment to furthering the School of Nursing mission in curriculum excellence, program expansion, and faculty support.

Degree of Supervision Minimal

Physical/Mental Demands and Work Environment The position requires critical thinking, reading, evaluating, planning, and decision making. Physical demands are minimal, with occasional lifting and carrying office supplies (10 pounds maximum). Operation of standard office equipment such as computer, phone, and printers occurs frequently. Some travel may be required.
