Medical Laboratory Scientist – Sundance, Wyoming
Join Crook County Medical Services District (CCMSD) as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) to support both the hospital and clinics. This position reports to the Medical Laboratory Supervisor.
Essential Functions
Perform various clinical testing including chemical, microscopic and bacteriologic analyses to support diagnosis and treatment.
Follow laboratory procedures for specimen collection, test analysis, reporting and record keeping.
Adhere to quality control standards and documentation of all quality control values and activities.
Perform instrument calibration/recalibration as indicated, with appropriate documentation.
Maintain analyzer maintenance per instrument specifications, documenting all activities.
Maintain competency in all assigned work areas of testing, achieving proficiency testing results of at least 80%.
Identify and resolve or communicate problems that affect test performance or reporting.
Document all corrective actions when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
Participate in CCMSD’s Laboratory Quality Improvement Program to enhance quality of care.
Education
Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology, Applied Science or equivalent.
ASCP registry or equivalent as MLS or MLT, or willingness to obtain.
Experience
Preferred: experience using clinical information programs.
Preferred: experience with varied laboratory instrumentation.
Preferred: experience with varied phlebotomy skills.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Excellent patient care skills and professional, discreet manner at all times.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work as a team player or independently.
Ability to work with a variety of personalities in a calm, professional manner.
Ability to respond promptly to critical draw requests in a trauma setting, within short response times.
Effective communication skills for direct contact with patients, supervisory staff, guests and hospital personnel.
Hours of Work
Weekdays with rotating on‑call shifts for all other hours to maintain 24‑hour coverage for the hospital.
