Girls Ment To Be is looking for committed and mission-driven individuals to serve on our volunteer Board of Directors. Board Members provide strategic leadership, support organizational growth, and help strengthen programs and partnerships. This role is ideal for professionals who want to make a meaningful community impact while contributing to the development of a growing youth-focused nonprofit. This is a volunteer position with flexible hours.
Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Governance
Provide high-level guidance to support the mission, values, and long-term vision of Girls Ment To Be.
Attend bi-monthly board meetings and participate in committees or working groups.
Review and approve policies, budgets, organizational plans, and compliance matters.
Support fundraising and donor engagement efforts, including sponsorships, campaigns, and community outreach.
Help identify and cultivate potential donors, grants, and local business partners.
Community & Program Support
Serve as an ambassador for Girls Ment To Be at community events, school meetings, and public engagements.
Provide insight to strengthen programs such as mentorship, academic support, Saturday workshops, and youth development initiatives.
Assist with building partnerships with schools, libraries, community centers, and youth-serving organizations.
Organizational Growth
Offer expertise related to nonprofit development, marketing, finance, volunteer management, or programming.
Support strategic initiatives including future after-school programs, summer camps, and expansion projects.
Assist with oversight of volunteer recruitment, training, and engagement strategies.
Preferred Skills & Experience Candidates may specialize in one or more of the following areas:
Nonprofit leadership or governance
Youth development, mentorship, or education
Fundraising, development, or sponsorship sales
Marketing, communications, or social media strategy
Finance, budgeting, or accounting
Community outreach & partnership building
Legal or compliance
Event planning or program coordination
General Qualifications
Strong leadership and communication skills
Ability to collaborate in a team environment
Passion for youth empowerment and community service
Comfortable representing the organization publicly
Time Commitment
Approx. 4–6 hours per month
Bi-monthly board meetings (virtual or hybrid)
Occasional support for events or committee meetings
