PURPOSE OF POSITION
The purpose of this position is to procure, install, design, maintain, and modify fiber optic cable manufacturing equipment. This position supports senior engineers in the plant engineering department as well as meeting mechanical design needs as they arise across other departments.
GENERAL FUNCTIONS/SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Specify and install new equipment
Prepare and issue specifications and/or design drawings for new equipment
Evaluate bid proposals and award contracts
Establish and maintain project budgets and schedules
Oversee installation of new equipment
Develop test plans to confirm new equipment functionality and safety
Modify existing equipment
Prepare design drawings based on internal requirements arising from Process, Safety, or Quality Engineering
Issue drawings for fabrication internally or through external vendors
Oversee installation and implementation of design changes
Repair existing equipment
Support Maintenance Department with technical advice for machine troubleshooting
Maintain equipment documentation
Provide technical details to process engineering as equipment questions arise
Assist Plant Engineering Manager with engineering library organization
DUETS PERFORMED OCCASIONALLY OR PERIODICALLY
Assist electrical and/or process engineers with machine troubleshooting & repair
Develop preventive maintenance activities and schedules.
Provide mechanical design solutions to the Product Design team as needs arise
Coordinate process engineering and maintenance activities for new equipment installation
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university
Familiar with 3D CAD software; Solidworks preferred
Experience with 2D layout drawings; AutoCAD preferred
Abililty to communicate effectively in a complex manufacturing environment
Ability to evaluate mechanical issues, identify root cause, and develop long term solutions
Ability to maintain a safe environment for oneself and others while working around complicated electromechanical machinery
Desire to learn from others and grow as a member of the Plant Engineering team
Proficient with Microsoft office suite (outlook, word, powerpoint, excel)
Prior engineering experience in an internship, co-op, or full time role (experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus)
