Staff Development Coordinator & Infection Preventionist (clinical; RN license required)
Hawthorne House, a leading provider of skilled nursing care, skilled rehabilitation, memory‑impaired living, and assisted living, is seeking an experienced Staff Development Coordinator & Infection Preventionist. The role is based in Freeport, Maine and requires a current RN license.
Responsibilities
Coordinate all educational programs for licensed and unlicensed staff, ensuring alignment with nursing leadership and quality improvement initiatives.
Develop and maintain an annual calendar of educational activities, and plan, deliver, evaluate, and document those programs.
Identify essential competencies for all staff, assuring appropriate educational opportunities exist to promote growth.
Lead unit‑based orientation for new hires, coordinating preceptor/mentor assignments and monitoring progress.
Organize and schedule mandatory education sessions (fire safety, infection control, abuse and neglect, residents’ rights, hazard communication, sexual harassment, HIPAA, etc.) and track attendance.
Coordinate BLS and First Aid education, lab draw training, and the CNAs career series training for regulatory compliance.
Collaborate with the Nursing Director, business manager, unit managers, and scheduler to maintain adequate staffing and coverage during shifts.
Assist in developing, implementing, and conducting in‑service training on safety, infection control policies, and blood/body‑fluid exposure prevention.
Maintain current employee health files and manage immunization, tuberculosis, and influenza programs.
Monitor and investigate employee injuries, exposures, and illnesses, working with the Infection Preventionist on communicable disease incidents.
Provide ongoing support to preceptors/mentors and contribute to a collaborative, professional environment through leadership and positive group processes.
Qualifications
State of Maine RN license.
Minimum one‑year experience in a long‑term care or skilled nursing facility setting.
Previous teaching, staff development, or educational program experience strongly preferred.
Expectations
