About the Role The Staff Development Coordinator & Infection Preventionist will lead the Nursing Department in designing and delivering educational programs for licensed and unlicensed staff. The role supports quality of care, staff growth, satisfaction, and retention while ensuring regulatory compliance.
Essential Functions
Coordinate all educational programs for licensed and unlicensed staff, including annual calendars, mandatory trainings, and targeted in‑services.
Identify competency needs, plan, deliver, and evaluate educational initiatives that promote professional development.
Manage unit‑based orientations, preceptor/mentor selection, and ongoing support.
Oversee mandatory education (fire safety, infection control, abuse & neglect, residents’ rights, hazard communication, sexual harassment, HIPAA) and track attendance.
Coordinate BLS and First Aid training for direct‑care staff and liaise with external schools to ensure quality instruction.
Plan new‑hire and monthly orientation programs, maintaining documentation and compliance with state regulations.
Develop and implement in‑service training on safety topics, infection control policies, and blood/body‑fluid exposure prevention.
Maintain current health and immunization records, manage TB and influenza programs, and monitor employee injuries or exposures.
Collaborate with the Infection Preventionist on communicable disease identification and containment.
Expectations
Foster a collaborative, collegial environment across the interdisciplinary team.
Lead staff through professional goal setting, prioritization, and resource identification.
Conduct in‑services and daily operations with a warm, supportive approach.
Identify opportunities for improvement and develop strategic solutions.
Serve as a role model and advocate for quality patient care.
Education and Experience
Maine State RN license.
Minimum one year experience in a Medicaid/Long‑Term Care or Skilled Nursing Facility setting.
Prior teaching or staff‑development experience strongly preferred.
