Direct Support Professional – Residential Services
Location: Passaic County, NJ
Job Type: Full-Time
Shift: Thursday through Monday 4pm-12am, Saturday and Sunday 8am-4pm, Wednesday and Thursday 12am-8am (Shift shared with Paterson 32nd Street)
Salary: $18.50/hr

About the Opportunity Join our team and make a difference in the lives of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. As a Residential Care Assistant/Direct Support Specialist, you’ll provide compassionate support to help residents live their best lives, assisting with daily activities such as hygiene, meals, and medication, creating a comfortable environment, and fostering meaningful family and community connections.
Key Responsibilities
Engage residents in activities of daily living to the extent of their ability and support individual needs (shopping, meal preparation, cleaning, bathing, dressing, toileting, feeding, grooming, and hygiene).
Support individual health and service plans (HSP/ISP), observe and document changes in health and behavior, and report findings.
Perform household chores and assist residents in determining social, recreational, or educational activities.
Ensure residents’ safety through standard health precautions, monitor health, administer medication, and inspect equipment for proper functioning.
Drive vehicle and escort residents to scheduled programs or medical appointments as assigned.
Prepare and communicate written progress notes on medication administration, daily activities, medical emergencies, and related areas.
Interact with residents’ families and facilitate community engagement.
Participate in staff and house meetings and assist residents in attendance.
Perform additional tasks as required by the Group Home Manager.
Maintain a clean and safe working environment, rotating household chores and adhering to health precautions.
Adhere to all Pillar policies and procedures.
Qualifications
At least 18 years of age (Insurance Purposes)
High School Diploma or GED
1–2 years of successful employment within a similar establishment or agency
Preferred: 1 year of experience supporting adults or children with developmental disabilities
Successful completion of criminal background check and fingerprint examination
Valid driver’s license with fewer than 4 points
Employment Requirements
Complete a criminal background check and secure clearance from the Department of Human Services before employment begins.
Consent to a name check against the Central Registry of Offenders Against Individuals with Developmental Disabilities.
Submit to drug testing prior to the start date.
Complete applications for name checks against the Child Abuse Registry Information (CARI).
