Job Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift Emergency Department assignment requiring a WV or compact license, BSN, and multiple certifications.
Responsibilities
Work in an acute care Emergency Department with 40 beds, including 2 trauma bays, 7 rapid medical exam beds, and 2 psych/seclusion rooms
Patient population includes trauma, STEMI, stroke, behavioral health, pediatric/adolescent, and typical ED emergency cases
Average patient volume is approximately 120 patients per day
RN patient ratio is typically 1:4
Night shift schedule 7p-7a, with every other weekend and holiday coverage as needed
Use of Epic EMR is required
No floating outside of the Emergency Department
Specialized equipment used includes Servo U, Hamilton G5, and Hamilton T1 ventilators, bipap, high flow oxygen systems, Phillips monitoring systems, and Omnicell for medication dispensing
Rapid Medical Exam (RME) area is staffed with a PA or ED physician and an LPN or RN, handling typical level 3-5 cases
Responsibilities include lab draws, IV starts, foley catheter insertion and removal, EKGs, wound care, and procedure assistance for traumas
Charge nurse support is available 24/7, with ED techs and paramedics providing additional assistance
Floor-specific orientation of 1 or 2 shifts is provided based on experience
Block scheduling may be available if it meets unit needs
Travelers are expected to follow the navy blue scrub dress code with natural hair colors and cover distasteful tattoos
RT and pharmacy services are available in-house 24/7
Security is present hospital-wide with rapid accessibility to the ED
IV team is not present; nurses and PCTs are responsible for IV access
Unit does not accept local travelers within 50 miles
Requirements
Active WV or compact RN license in hand
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
Minimum of 2 years of Emergency Department RN experience in a similar volume/size setting
Prior travel nursing experience required
Current certifications: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), PALS (AHA), NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS), and TNCC
Previous Epic EMR experience required
Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
Candidates with prior WVU employment as perm or traveler must have a break of at least 2 years before reapplying
COVID vaccination is required unless an approved medical or religious exemption is obtained
