McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. Position Summary The Mechanical Estimator participates in all aspects of the bid & estimating process. The Mechanical Estimator will perform quantity take-offs, pricing, scoping & biddings. Project types will vary from Healthcare, Central Plant, K-12, Higher Education & Commercial.

Key Responsibilities

Perform quantity take-offs, and pricing of mechanical, plumbing, and process piping estimates.

Develop and document logical assumptions during conceptual estimating activities, participate in estimate review and assist with final assembly of estimate.

Solicit subcontractors during the bidding process and organize information post-bid for future reference.

Communicate with project leads to clarify scope of work, materials, and schedule requirements.

Conduct reviews of milestone documents for the development and pricing of value alternative opportunities and recommendations and to identify changes in work scope.

Develop and maintain relationships with internal clients, subcontractors & vendors.

Prepare scopes of work for subcontractors and suppliers and coordinate scopes of work across disciplines.

Maintain current, working knowledge of MEP codes. Familiar with sheet metal, hydronic, refrigeration & plumbing systems.

Develops and documents assumptions during estimating activities and applies these assumptions to takeoff tasks. Compiles final list of assumptions and clarifications for inclusion with the estimate to the owner.

Assist the Project team, in developing a detailed set of General Conditions including a project schedule indicating the timeline of staff, equipment, and assets.

Aids field with change order pricing when needed.

Attends job walks, takes notes and photos for accurate scope of work.

Ability to understand and coordinate mechanical systems with other building trades.

Coordinate with the Procurement Manager to assist with procurement of equipment, subcontractors, and commodities.

Qualifications

Ability to understand and coordinate mechanical systems with other trades.

Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Engineering OR 5 years of equivalent estimating experience.

General knowledge of construction principles, processes, and contractual delivery methods (negotiated/hard bids, GMP processes).

Knowledge of Microsoft programs including Word, Excel, Outlook, Bluebeam, Winest, etc.

Ability to work under tight deadlines with an emphasis on multi-tasking.
