Description
Ensures sterility of all supplies and instruments during set up of surgical procedures.
Assists surgical team in maintaining sterile environment.
Assists surgical team in gathering necessary surgical supplies and equipment.
Is responsible for doing sponge, needle, and instrument count pre-operatively and intra-operative with the circulating nurse.
Gowns and gloves surgeons and assistants.
Assists in keeping physician preference cards accurate/updated.
Retains all specimens to be sent to pathology, confirming source/name of specimen with surgeon.
Transports all surgical equipment to appropriate cleaning areas. Assists in sterile supply with cleaning and reprocessing of instrument sets.
Interacts appropriately and effectively with all patients/others regardless of age or ethnic background.
Uses Standard Universal Precautions, appropriate hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, and safe practices to ensure personal safety and a safe environment.
Follows all equipment and safety guidelines and is responsible for knowledgeable use and care of equipment.
Maintains patient, physician, and employee privacy and confidentiality per policy.
Maintains designated certifications such as CPR, as offered by the clinic.
Complies with Policies and Procedures, and adheres to safety guidelines to ensure a safe work and patient care environment.
Maintain a proper sterile field during surgical procedures.
Count sponges, needles, and instruments before and after operation.
Hand instruments and supplies to surgeons and surgeons' assistants, hold retractors and cut sutures, and perform other tasks as directed by surgeon during operation.
Prepare patients for surgery, including positioning patients on the operating table and covering them with sterile surgical drapes to prevent exposure.
Wash and sterilize equipment, using germicides and sterilizers.
Monitor and continually assess operating room conditions, including patient and surgical team needs.
Prepare dressings or bandages and apply or assist with their application following surgery.
Clean and restock operating room, gathering and placing equipment and supplies and arranging instruments according to instructions, such as a preference card.
Operate, assemble, adjust, or monitor sterilizers, lights, suction machines, or diagnostic equipment to ensure proper operation.
Other duties as assigned.

Requirements Education
High School Diploma / GED
Completion of a Scrub Technician Program. Certification.
Experience Two years of experience as a Scrub Tech in multiple specialties.

Knowledge
Knowledge medical terminology as it pertains to anatomy and surgical procedures for an operating room.
Knowledge of medicine, biology, psychology, and safety.
Skills
Excellent manual dexterity and arm/hand steadiness.
Skilled in the use of suction devices, aspirators, and staplers, electrosurgical and electrocautery equipment.
Abilities
To apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
To deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
To gather and/or enter data into a computer.
Equipment Operated Use of scrub tech equipment. Standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc.
Work Environment The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold, and the risk of radiation. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, and the risk of electrical shock.
Noise level in the work environment is moderate.
