Overview Texas Oncology is looking for a Phlebotomist to join our Dallas Presbyterian location. Typical hours are Monday-Friday 8:30am - 5pm with no weekends or major holidays. The position can be Level 1, 2, or Sr based on candidate experience.

What does the Phlebotomist do? Under direct supervision, the Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting and processing specimens from patients, following quality assurance and safety policies, assisting with patient flow, properly identifying patients, drawing blood samples, sending samples to the laboratory, maintaining collection areas, performing record keeping duties, and adhering to quality guidelines.

Responsibilities

Performs phlebotomy and collects appropriate specimens from patients as ordered.

Maintains proper documentation as described by the quality assurance program.

Maintains adequate inventory of supplies and ensures supplies are viable before use.

Sends specimens to reference laboratories for any testing not performed in house.

Processes incoming orders for lab testing.

Processes in-house and incoming reports.

Updates and files all daily paperwork, lab logs and maintenance logs.

Properly identifies and bands patients for blood product transfusion.

Operates designated laboratory equipment as directed.

Uses equipment effectively, skillfully and efficiently.

Performs waived lab testing under CLIA guidelines for personnel.

Complies with regulatory agency standards and OSHA compliance laws.

Properly disposes of hazardous materials.

Maintains a clean working environment and restocks the phlebotomy and laboratory area as needed.

Maintains confidentiality of all information related to patients and medical staff.

Qualifications Level 1

– Entry level; no experience required. High school diploma or equivalent required. Licensure from an accredited phlebotomy school recommended. Current state licensure if applicable.

Level 2

– Requires three years of experience in addition to Level 1 requirements.

Level Sr

– Requires five or more years of experience in addition to Level 1 and Level 2 requirements.

Physical Demands Full range of body motion, manual and finger dexterity, eye‑hand coordination. Requires sitting/standing for extensive periods, occasional lifting and carrying up to 40 lbs, and legible handwriting.

Work Environment Regular direct contact with patients, exposure to blood/body fluids, chemotherapeutic agents, corrosive chemicals, infectious agents, glassware, and needles.
