Job Summary Registered nurses in the Medical Surgical unit on 5 Main at UK Good Samaritan Hospital provide comprehensive, patient‑centered care to adults with a variety of medical‑surgical needs, including diabetes, endocrine disorders, gastrointestinal disorders, wound care, and surgical cases (pre‑ and post‑operation). Responsibilities include:

Assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating a comprehensive nursing plan of care

Delivering direct patient care and ensuring patient satisfaction

Training and delegating duties for Nursing Care Technicians (Nursing Assistants)

Adhering to University and hospital policies, procedures, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations

Collaborating with nursing staff and physicians to enhance patient outcomes and communication

Required Education and Experience Education:

ADN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred)

Experience:

No experience required; BSN + at least 1 year RN experience preferred.

Required License / Registration / Certification Active Kentucky Registered Nurse (RN) license, Temporary Work Permit (TWP), Provisional License, or active compact state RN license in good standing, plus an American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification valid for at least six months after employment.

Physical Requirements The essential functions require the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50–100 pounds daily and 25–50 pounds frequently; stand, walk, and sit for extended periods; and may involve exposure to communicable diseases, radiation hazards, and injury from intractable patients or sharp instruments.
