NaphCare is partnering with Everhealth to hire a

Correctional Nurse Practitioner (NP)

to join our team of medical professionals in

Fort Pierce, Florida

where we manage all aspects of healthcare for the individuals who are currently incarcerated in the St. Lucie County Jail.

As a

Correctional Nurse Practitioner (NP) , you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide care to the individuals in residence. Working within a controlled environment, where security is top priority and the days are never dull, your duties will include assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients with a range of medical conditions and chronic illnesses, prescribing medications, responding to emergencies, and more.

Responsibilities

Conducting physical examinations, developing treatment plans and monitoring patients

Managing acute and chronic conditions such as asthma, hypertension, and diabetes.

Administering medications and providing instructions to patients

Monitoring and documenting patient health including vital signs, medical histories.

Providing direct patient care, triaging, assessing patient needs, developing care plans, and coordinating services.

Responding to medical emergencies, providing first aid, and ensuring timely transport to appropriate healthcare facilities.

Educating patients on preventative care, healthy lifestyle choices, and substance abuse prevention.

Understanding and adhering to correctional facility security protocols, while working closely with correctional officers and other healthcare professionals, to ensure the safety and well‑being of patients.

Maintaining accurate medical records, documenting treatment plans, and reporting any relevant information.

Conducting rounds, evaluating patients returning from off‑site treatment

Admitting and discharging patients from the facility

Qualifications Education / Licenses / Certifications / Requirements

Advanced nursing education (Master's or Doctorate)

Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner

Must hold a current unrestricted license as a Nurse Practitioner in Florida

Current DEA registration

An appropriate collaborative agreement with the on‑site Physician

Possess an active CPR certification

Be certified in a Board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties

Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening

Experience / Skills

Knowledge of nursing practice principles and techniques, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, applicable health care laws, regulations, and procedures for direct health care services.

Ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information

Excellent communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills

Able to work independently and in a team

Experience working in a correctional facility or acute care center is a plus

Integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements

Physical Capabilities Must have the ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.
