Summary / Objective The Registered Nurse is responsible for professional nursing care and related assistance to patients of any age group admitted to the area employed. The Registered Nurse provides direction to Licensed Vocational Nurses and non-licensed nursing personnel in providing direct patient care. The Registered Nurse supports the medical care of patients under the direction of the Medical Staff pursuant to the mission and objectives of the Hospital.
Essential Job Duties
Knows and conforms to the Nurse Practice Act for the State of Texas. Utilizes a systematic approach to provide individualized, goal-directed nursing care by completing comprehensive assessments, developing nursing diagnoses, planning care, implementing interventions, and evaluating patient responses.
Delegate tasks to unlicensed personnel that take into consideration patient safety and are commensurate with the educational preparation, experience, knowledge, and physical and emotional ability of the person, in compliance with the Texas Nurse Practice Act.
Implement measures to promote a safe environment for patients and others, understanding the rationale for and effects of medications and treatments, and correctly administering the same.
Maintains required documentation of patient care and unit activities in accordance with standards.
Clarify any order or treatment regimen that the nurse believes is inaccurate, non-efficacious or contraindicated by consulting with the appropriate licensed practitioner and notifying the ordering practitioner when the nurse decides not to administer the medication or treatment.
Institute appropriate nursing interventions that might be required to stabilize a patient's condition and/or prevent complications.
Required Education and Experience Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
No experience required.
Required License / Certifications
Current RN license in the State of Texas
BLS certification
Unit specific competencies obtained within six months of hire
