American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level 4 ICU position in Michigan requiring a MI RN license and strong ventilator management skills.
Responsibilities
Work in a 5-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with 2 Intermediate Care (IMC) beds
Patient population includes respiratory failure, septic shock, detox, DKA, A-fib, and arrhythmias requiring pacing
RN to patient ratio is 2:1 in ICU and 3:1 in IMC, depending on acuity
Common titratable drips used include Levophed, propofol, cardizem, esmolol, and insulin
RNs are required to titrate drips and verify telemetry strips
Respiratory therapy equipment includes vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and heated high flow
Night shift, 12-hour shifts with every other weekend rotation (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
Holiday coverage for 2 out of 3 major holidays required
Must float to Med/Surg-Tele units and may cover ratios of 1:3-6 as needed
Uses a computerized charting system (not Epic or Cerner); EMR experience is not specified
RNs verify and sign off on telemetry strips for both ICU and MS units; training provided if needed
Charge nurse role takes a full patient assignment; there are no nurse aides on the unit
Must assist and troubleshoot with respiratory equipment when necessary
Unit-specific orientation includes computer education and shadowing before independent shifts
Dress code requires solid professional scrubs with no specific color
Opportunity exists for on-call or standby shifts
Local candidates within 80 miles are accepted with a reduced rate
Requirements
Active MI RN license required by start date
Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience in an ICU setting
Current certifications: ACLS (AHA) and BLS (AHA)
Demonstrated strength in ventilator management and use of ICU/respiratory equipment
Must be willing and able to float to Med/Surg-Tele units as needed
Prefer candidates with Trauma Level 3 or 4 experience or critical access/rural hospital background
Two professional references required (at least one from a supervisor within the last year; one peer or supervisor within last 3 years)
Must not have been a former permanent employee within the last 6 months
