Job Summary Under the supervision and direction of a Registered Nurse, the Nurse Extern provides routine care and assists patients with the following tasks related to the activities of daily living. Responsible to the Patient Care Director of the assigned unit and the RN's on duty on each assigned shift. Other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
Provide routine care and assist patients with activities of daily living.
Report to the Patient Care Director and RN on duty.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
If in a 4‑year program, a minimum of two acute care medical‑surgical clinical rotations (or one medical‑surgical rotation and one clinical rotation pertinent to the applying area) from an accredited school of nursing is required. At least one rotation must have included medication administration.
If in a 2‑year program or accelerated/direct entry, must complete one medical‑surgical clinical rotation along with pertinent work experience. At least one rotation must have included medication administration.
Nursing courses/clinicals must provide theory, knowledge, and experience in patient care, patient care procedures and techniques, physical assessments, gathering of history data, development of nursing care plans, and medical record documentation.
Six months or more as a nursing assistant is preferred.
Currently enrolled in an accredited School of Nursing or a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing prepared to take the NCLEX or waiting to retake the NCLEX exam for a second time.
State of Wisconsin Nursing Assistant Certification is preferred; otherwise must provide documentation for the basic nursing course per the State of Wisconsin administrative code.
American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent is required within 90 days of hire.

On‑site.
Full‑time: 0.001 FTE, one shift per week (0700‑1530), no weekends or holidays.
