Position Summary The Dietary Technician (Diet Tech) plays a key role in supporting nutritional care for residents at our Southview Acres Healthcare Center. Working under the supervision of the Registered Dietitian and Dietary Manager, the Diet Tech assists with nutritional assessments, menu planning, dietary documentation, and ensures compliance with regulatory standards and physician-ordered diets. This position helps promote resident well-being through safe, nutritious, and individualized meal plans.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assist the Registered Dietitian in nutritional screening, data collection, and assessments.
Review and implement physician-ordered diets and nutritional supplements.
Monitor residents’ intake, weight changes, and nutritional risks, and report findings.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams on care plans and dietary interventions.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation in medical records.
Participate in menu planning, recipe modifications, and ensure therapeutic diets are followed.
Educate residents and staff on basic nutrition, special diets, and food safety.
Conduct audits and ensure regulatory compliance with state, federal, and facility policies.
Assist with food service staff training regarding dietary restrictions or modifications.
Qualifications
Associate’s Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field preferred.
Successful completion of an accredited Dietetic Technician program or equivalent (preferred but not required).
Current Dietetic Technician Registration (DTR) through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (preferred).
Experience in a long‑term care or skilled nursing facility strongly preferred.
Knowledge of therapeutic diets and state/federal regulatory requirements.
Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.
Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with attention to detail and resident needs.
Work Environment
Work is performed in a skilled nursing facility setting.
Frequent interaction with residents, staff, and healthcare professionals.
May be exposed to kitchen equipment, cleaning chemicals, and resident care settings.
Physical Requirements
Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
Occasional lifting or carrying up to 25 pounds.
Must be able to observe and respond to residents' needs and dietary changes.
