Veterinary Student Externship – Boca Park Animal Hospital

role at

United Veterinary Care .

United Veterinary Care is delighted to host veterinary students for externships! This valuable clinical experience will let you apply classroom learning in an animal hospital of your choice.

Our hands‑on externships are designed exclusively for veterinary students at AVMA‑accredited veterinary schools in their clinical years, typically 3rd or 4th year of vet school. Because every student has different interests, we offer these programs at many partner hospitals. We understand travel and lodging can be costly, so we provide stipends to offset these expenses unless prohibited by the veterinary school.

Eligibility requirements:

Must be a current veterinary student at an AVMA‑accredited veterinary school.

Priority scheduling for students in their clinical years on official externship blocks for school credit.

Must provide proof of professional liability insurance; SAVMA members qualify for no‑cost insurance by applying at the link: SAVMA Member Benefit and Resources | AVMA PLIT.

What to expect from your externship:

You will see a variety of cases with our high volume appointments and surgeries. Our team ranges from new grads to very experienced 10+ years. We have advanced equipment including a CT machine, ultrasound, digital X‑ray, Ligasure cautery, and therapeutic laser therapy.

We want to hear about your professional goals for the externship! Please indicate your top priorities in your application so we can tailor the experience to your needs.

During your externship, you will actively participate in cases and develop toward becoming a veterinarian. You will always be supervised by an experienced veterinarian and skilled support staff, who will serve as mentors. You can expect to be included in surgical cases, dental procedures, emergencies, sick patient workups, and routine medical appointments. If there are specific technical skills you wish to improve, let us know so we can emphasize those areas. We encourage active participation, introduce you to our clients, and make you part of the team. Listening to patient history, conducting preliminary exams, and formulating diagnostic and treatment plans are ways to put your education to the test and prepare you for real‑world veterinary medicine. You will discuss cases with your supervising veterinarian and have them confirm your exam findings to verify your plan. This dynamic creates an environment for growth. We encourage externs to select one case per week to further research and engage the veterinarians in further case discussion. These discussions help us all learn.

We truly enjoy hosting externs and welcoming new graduates who bring fresh knowledge.
