About the Unit 3 West is a 31‑bed general medicine unit caring for a variety of medical patients including COPD, diabetes, pneumonia, renal failure, minor neurological disorders, and behavioral health. The team provides a supportive and mentoring atmosphere with online self‑scheduling, exceptional night and weekend shift differentials, and coaching from preceptors. Approximately 30% of bedside staff are Med/Surg certified, and several possess master’s degrees.
Summary Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting and accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.
Responsibilities
Education
– Participate in identifying learning needs, attend education programs, use patient education materials, and assess patient/family readiness to learn.
Evaluation of Care
– Identify expected patient outcomes, seek guidance for plan of care revisions, discuss patient care with interdisciplinary teams, and communicate information to promote continuity of care.
Implementation
– Demonstrate competence in care of complex patients, perform bedside point‑of‑care testing, utilize organizational policies and procedures, prioritize care, and consult resources for complex issues.
Leadership
– Develop goals for professional growth, participate in unit goals and improvement activities, use communication systems, promote cost‑effective care, provide feedback, and maintain a safe, clean and secure hospital environment.
Patient Assessment
– Recognize data from complex situations, synthesize assessment into meaningful information, assess discharge needs, and build relationships with families.
Planning
– Collaborate with patient/family to prepare or update care plans, use multidisciplinary resources, address cultural and ethnic issues, and prioritize tasks for complex patients.
Research
– Read relevant journals, bring ideas to the staff, and evaluate applicability to practice.
Education Requirements
Graduation from a school of professional nursing.
If hired after January 6, 2014, must be enrolled within four years of employment and obtain a Bachelor's degree in Nursing or a Master's degree in Nursing within seven years of employment.
Licensure/Certification Requirements
Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina.
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
Professional Experience Requirements
One (1) year of nursing experience.
