Organizational Unit Overview The Department of Health Education and Promotion is comprised of 42 faculty members whose teaching and research interests span a variety of areas that center on improving the health and wellbeing of individuals, communities, populations, and the environment. The Department provides instruction for the University’s general education requirement in personal health. Approximately 1,000 majors are currently enrolled in one of the degree programs in the Department, including the BS in Public Health; BS and MS in Environmental Health. The BS and MS in Environmental Health are accredited by the National Environmental Health Science and Protection Accreditation Council (EHAC). More information can be found at the Department website:

Job Duties This position will be trained to manage a research lab and run insecticide‑resistance assays in mosquitoes using a new compact wind tunnel and other methods, including the CDC bottle bioassay. This work is part of a grant‑funded project to develop a contract research organization (CRO) centered on the wind‑tunnel technology. The role includes routine lab duties and support for additional laboratory and field experiments related to mosquito insecticide resistance and vector competence. Some weekend and evening work will be required.
Primary Responsibilities
Assist in maintaining mosquito colonies
Assist in developing and optimizing experimental methods
Learn to set up and run insecticide‑exposure experiments
Learn to perform droplet analysis
Assist in supporting tasks such as tissue culture, RNA extraction, and qRT‑PCR as needed
Be available to work weekends periodically for mosquito colony maintenance and/or outside of normal business hours for morning or evening field trials periodically
Optimize wind‑tunnel exposure methods with the faculty supervisor
Manage and analyze data, and create graphs, tables, and statistical summaries
Write standard operating procedures (SOPs) and periodically assist with literature reviews for grant proposals and manuscripts

Experience multitasking with prioritizing tasks
Experience with lab preparation and management for student training and funded faculty projects
Demonstrated experience in team‑based science and working in groups of individuals on various projects
