Job Summary #CA-PS
Under the direction of the Center for Advanced Veterinary Surgery (CAVS) supervisor and Service Chiefs, provide technical support to the CAVS Surgical and Anesthesia services. This position will float between CAVS and the VMTH depending on service needs. Responsibilities include but are not limited to OR circulation, surgical preparation for various procedures, anesthesia induction, anesthesia monitoring and recovery, patient treatments, diagnostic sample collection and performing technical skills such as patient restraint, IV catheter placement, blood draws, bandaging, and positioning and obtaining radiographs. Responsible for patient transport between CAVS and VMTH.
Key Responsibilities
50% - Surgical Operating Room & Technical Support
25% - Anesthesia Support
25% - Stock Supplies and Equipment Maintenance
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
Must possess a California Registered Veterinary Technician license within 6 months of date of hire.
Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.
No Minimum Education requirement.
Experience in prioritizing and organizing workload without direct supervision.
Experience placing and maintaining various types of catheters.
Experience in aseptic technique and circulation in an OR. Experience inducing and monitoring anesthesia.
Experience communicating orally and in writing with a diverse group of people.
Interpersonal skills to work with a diverse group of people, including veterinary students, clients, clinicians, and staff.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in the use of various specialized surgical and diagnostic equipment.
Experience to recognize normal and abnormal parameters for patients and how to respond accordingly.

Work under regular exposure to zoonotic diseases, anesthesia, cleaning chemicals and exposure to radioactive patients. May require working with or around areas with sick animals, hazardous materials, and/or infectious diseases, and distraught clients. Work in other related areas on an as needed basis.

This is a critical position, as defined by UC Policy and local procedures, and as such, employment is contingent upon clearing a criminal background check(s) and may include drug screening, medical evaluation clearance and functional capacity assessment.
