About The Unit 6 South is a 50-bed Mother/Baby care unit. Care is provided to post-partum mothers and their newborn infants. They also provide education to new families to facilitate their transition to a family unit.

Scope of work The Lactation Consultant functions as a member of the health care team by providing patient and family education, acting as a consultant and resource for the medical and nursing staff, and by serving as a community resource for breast feeding related care throughout the organization, not just in Maternal Child Health. The Lactation Consultant uses specific age and culture-related physical, intellectual, psychosocial, and developmental attributes in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for breast feeding patients.

Qualifications

Required Associate's Degree in nursing

Preferred Bachelor of Science in Nursing

2 years of relevant experience. 2 years of recent maternal child experience required

Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Michigan required

CLC required at time of hire. CRT-Board Cert Lactation Consultant (BC-IBCLC) - IBCLCE International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners required within 2 years

This position Prefers IBCLC upon hire with previous Lactation Consultant experience

AHA, ARC, or Canadian Heart and Stroke Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire
