Responsibilities
Conduct functional analyses of patient behavior
Participate as a member of the treatment team and contribute to the Master Treatment Plan
Implement appropriate interventions from the plan
Conduct individual and group psychoeducation, leisure activities and life‑skill training and coaching for all patients
Provide safety monitoring of patients and of the unit
Maintain professional development such as BLS and CPI
Observe and monitor patient status according to monitoring standards, including vital signs, weight log, intake and output, dietary intake, Q15‑minute behavioral rounds sheets, admission checklists, and other progress or milieu notes
Report patient complaints or other concerns in a timely manner
Provide verbal and written input to nursing staff via ongoing reporting and end‑of‑shift report so patient needs and care can be prioritized
Demonstrate proficiency and skill in providing care to patients: orienting to unit, transport, de‑escalation, teaching of coping skills, conflict resolution, problem‑solving skills, assistance with activities of daily living, admission & discharge procedures, response to codes, use of CPI techniques and life coaching skills
Co‑lead patient psycho‑educational groups and ensure active treatment is occurring as scheduled
Provide timely and accurate information on patient behaviors and progress to the interdisciplinary team
Serve in a supervisory or lead role, as requested
Conduct individual life coaching, psychoeducation, and supportive counseling in accordance with the Master Treatment Plan goals
Lead or co‑lead group therapy sessions related to leisure skills, life skills and psychoeducation
Manage acute behavioral episodes using approved de‑escalation techniques, such as CPI
Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
Licenses/Certification: CNA preferred; BLS preferred
Required Experience: 1 year of experience working in a psychiatric inpatient setting
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations
Ability to adjust to changes in a professional manner
Flexibility around working hours to meet patient and unit needs
Ability to intervene quickly in an emergency situation to move patients away from a potentially hazardous situation and maintain safety for patients, staff, and personal
Ability to be involved in a physical escort, hold or restraint to minimize risk of injury to patients or staff
Must adhere to regularly scheduled hours and plan absences in advance to assure unit staffing and safety
Must read, write and speak fluent English
Perform other related duties as assigned
