Position Compensation Base hiring salary range: Minimum: $16.00 Mid: $18.40 Max: $20.80 Actual salaries may vary based on skills and experience. The salary range is one component of the total rewards/compensation package.
Summary The Patient Access Counselor is responsible for facilitating a positive patient experience through friendly coordination and advocacy in reception, pre‑registration, registration, scheduling and other interactions during the patient stay in the facility. Assists in patient identification, demographics collection, insurance verification and eligibility, financial counseling, cashiering, notification, authorization, and advocating for government programs. Anticipates and responds to non‑clinical needs of patients and families. Initiates, follows up, and coordinates with patients, families, and outside agencies for Medicaid, AHCCCS, Marketplace, and YRMC Financial Assistance. Maintains assigned work queues in relation to Patient Access and the Revenue Cycle.
Responsibilities
Perform registration process, pre-register individuals for outpatient services, and manage interactions during patient stay.
Assist with patient identification, demographics collection, financial counseling, cashiering, and advocacy for governmental programs.
Schedule and transcribe patient appointments and procedures and coordinate procedures for outpatient services following guidelines.
Obtain admission information such as insurance/financial data and demographics and ensure accurate medical records.
Collect registration paperwork (COA, IP Medicare and Tricare Bill of Rights, Medicare Outpatient Observation Notice, Privacy Practice (HIPAA), Patient Bill of Rights, Financial Assistance) and enter relevant data accurately with required signatures.
Promote accurate billing information and verify insurance cards/form data against system records.
Maintain knowledge of third‑party payer regulations, ICD9/ICD10, CPT, HCPCS and related registration and billing requirements.
Educate patients and families on policies and standards set by YRMC, CMS and other agencies.
Conduct financial counseling and collection, complete financial forms for self‑pay patients, determine charity care eligibility, and obtain documentation.
Review patient billing files pre/post service to ensure accuracy, completeness, and documentation.
Evaluate insurance coverage to determine total patient responsibility and present payment options.
Estimate prices, assign payment plans, collect initial payments, and monitor accounts for bad debt and charity care.
Initiate AHCCCS and Marketplace applications for qualified cases.
Maintain continuous education associated with programs and follow‑up work, accurately record money and post to accounts, settle credit card machine, and manage cash drawer receipts and bank deposits.
Collect and post payments to appropriate patient accounts, manage petty cash checks and balances.
Complete insurance verification, authorization, and pre‑authorization processes, obtain documentation from patients, physicians, and insurers.
Contact third‑party payers for insurance information, verification, authorization, and pre‑certification; ensure signatures on required documents.
Keep patient encounters documented in electronic health records with appropriate notes for follow‑up.
Perform any additional duties as assigned.

Arizona fingerprint clearance.
Education
Essential:
HS Diploma/GED.
