Department Overview The Department of Finance, Real Estate and Business Law offers three options within the Bachelor of Science in the Business Administration degree program: Finance, International Business, and Real Estate and Urban Land Economics. The department is home to the award‑winning Student‑Managed Investment Funds Program that is currently managing a $6.5 million endowment fund.

Position Summary The department seeks qualified candidates to teach undergraduate courses such as:

FIN 120 – Principles of Finance

FIN 122 – Financial Institutions and Markets

FIN 131E – Entrepreneurial Finance

Other classes that may be identified as needed to fulfill educational goals of current students

As an AACSB‑accredited institution, the Craig School of Business (CSB) expects faculty members to hold and maintain qualifications consistent with one of the following categories: SA (Scholarly Academic), PA (Practice Academics), SP (Scholarly Practitioners), or IP (Instructional Practitioners).

Instructor Responsibilities Temporary faculty members are responsible for adherence to and implementation of university and system‑wide policies as directed per Academic Policy Manual 306, paragraph 2. Instructors prepare, deliver, conduct, proctor, and grade lectures, office hours, homework assignments, quizzes, class projects, and midterm and final exams. All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the entire semester in the mode assigned and listed in the schedule of classes (e.g., asynchronous, synchronous, in‑person, or hybrid).

Conditional Appointment An appointment is contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and subject to the Order of Work provisions in the collective bargaining agreement between California State University and California Faculty Association, which prioritize tenure‑line faculty before new lecturer appointees.

Appointees must demonstrate eligibility to work in the United States.

Compensation Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience within the established CSU Salary Schedule (Class Code 2358 for Academic Year Lecturers). For temporary faculty holding a Master’s degree, the range is $5,507–$6,677 per month when teaching full time (15 WTUs). Starting salaries are usually at or near the minimum of the range, with adjustments based on WTUs assigned per term.

Required Qualifications

Education Master’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.

Experience At least 3 years of professional experience in the field; or a doctorate earned within the previous 5 years; or recent scholarly activity such as peer‑reviewed publications.

Preferred Qualifications

Commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, evidenced by prior teaching experience and evaluations.

Successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level.

Relevant industry experience.

Certification or licensure related to finance (e.g., CFA, CFP, FP&A).
