This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Orangeburg Area Mental Health Center, 112 Guess Lane, St. Matthews, SC 29135.

Responsibilities for the Mental Health Professional

Provide an array of community mental health services in a school setting in a culturally competent manner. Clinical services to be performed as privileged, will include but not be limited to assessment, crisis management, individual, group and family therapy and other services that are needed and appropriate for students and their families.

Participate in treatment team meetings/staffing and administrative meetings as designated; adheres to Corporate Compliance, Fire and Safety, CARF and HIPAA standards.

Provide consultation and training to teachers and community. Participate with school personnel in parent‑teacher conferences and other designated school meetings to offer appropriate consultation, referrals and mental health services as needed.

Develop, arrange, and facilitate services for the assigned caseload during periods when school is not in session, ensuring that services do not lapse.

Active participation in data collection and assimilation for reporting outcomes as required for school‑based mental health projects.

Maintain medical records and clinical documentation to meet QA and CARF standards.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A Master's degree in guidance, counseling or the social sciences or a related field.

Additional Requirements

In order to be credentialed for core services as a Mental Health Professional at the SC Office of Mental Health, applicants must provide evidence of clinical experience providing direct patient care. This experience may be documented as a practicum or internship during graduate program, or post‑graduate clinical experience.

Must be able to stand, walk, reach, pull, bend, climb stairs, move from one area to another and lift 20 lbs.

Must be licensure eligible in his/her specific field of study.

Must have prior experience developing programs in the school mental health services and building relationships with school staff/parents/youth.

Have excellent therapeutic skills in working with Children, Adolescents and their families.

Preferred Qualifications

Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

Experience with treating individuals diagnosed with mental illness.

Additional Comments

You are considered essential staff during all emergencies. Therefore, you will be required to be available during emergencies when instructed by management or a supervisor.

Post‑Hire, Employee Must

Have practical therapeutic knowledge of principles, methods, and counseling practices and procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of behavioral and mental disorders.

Have the ability to listen and understand and communicate information and ideas so that others will understand.

Have knowledge of psychopathology, family dynamics, family and group psychotherapy.

Have the ability to identify and effectively utilize resources available in the community to accomplish objectives.

Have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals, families and representatives of other professional disciplines.

Have the ability to present clear and comprehensive oral and written reports.

Be provided routine supervision by supervisor, psychiatrist and monthly consultation groups.

Employee's activities are governed by OAMHC and OMH policy and procedure.

Be able to pass CPR and Managing Agitation in the Psychiatric Setting (MAPS) Certification.

Essential Duties and Call‑back Position is essential and may be called back during crises/disasters/emergencies.
