The Anatomic Pathology department is seeking a motivated individual to join our team! Are you seeking an exciting career in a hospital setting that involves exploring human anatomy daily? Our team works closely with Pathology residents and Pathologists to aid in tissue processing in the lab. We handle specimens ranging from as small as a mustard seed to full-size limbs. This position is also responsible for ensuring correct documentation for patients entering and leaving our morgue, along with basic assistance with post-mortem examinations. Responsibilities
Assesses specimen and order acceptability according to departmental policies and procedures.
Accession all specimens received indicated for Surgical Pathology.
Label specimens correctly and add formalin to all specimens that do not require special attention.
Responsible for dictating gross descriptions of GI, GYN, prostate, kidney, liver, bone marrow, as well as surgical devices. Inks and cuts breasts in accordance with appropriate breast protocols.
Performs and assists with specimen and frozen section preparation.
Receives and releases bodies in the morgue to ARORA, Coroner’s office, Crime lab, and funeral homes, assuring all paperwork is complete and correct.
Maintaining the cleanliness and setup of autopsies in the morgue.
Daily cleaning of cryostats with appropriate reagents.
Maintaining a positive attitude and correctly performing all duties during strenuous work hours.
Performs preventative maintenance on machines and equipment. Performs troubleshooting on laboratory equipment.
Ensures all cassettes are added to the Histology processors with the appropriate date and end time.
General lab duties, including but not limited to recording room and equipment temperatures in the appropriate logbook, restocking supplies, and maintaining a safe and organized work environment.
May perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate's degree in laboratory science, medical laboratory technology degree - OR - 60 credit hours obtained from an accredited institution that must include 24 credit hours in Medical Technology or Science Courses, which include 6 credit hours of Biology & 6 credit hours of Chemistry.
Ability to work on occasional weekends and rotate on-call duties.
Preferred Qualifications
One (1) year of experience as a grossing tech or assistant.
Professional License/Certification (Certified by ASCP or equivalent).
Experience in a hospital setting.
EPIC training.
Salary Information Commensurate with education and experience
