South Dakota State University is looking for a Finance and Budget Specialist to join our Finance and Budget team. This internal posting is eligible to all current, permanent, full‑time employees at SDSU, and is a 12‑month, full‑time, benefits‑eligible position located in Brookings, South Dakota.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide leadership and management of budget related processes.
Assist with university budget management, including personnel services budget management.
Develop and deliver reports and decision‑support tools that enable campus leadership and stakeholders to evaluate financial strategies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree completed by date of hire.
At least five years of experience in higher education, finance, budget, accounting (including grants & contracts accounting), human resources, payroll, or a related field.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
Extensive knowledge of university budgetary procedures.
Experience providing guidance, work direction, and training to others.
Demonstrated advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including Pivot Tables or other similar advanced tools.
Demonstrated proficiency with university data systems, processes, and procedures.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Sponsorship is not available for this position.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree preferably in Finance, Business, Accounting, Economics, or a related field by date of hire.
Knowledge of LEAN principles or other process improvement experience.
