Position is Assistant Professor in Entomology at the University of Georgia, Athens. Tenure‑track, 9‑month academic calendar.
Position Summary The Department of Entomology invites applications for a 9‑month tenure‑track position at the Assistant Professor rank. The post is centered on insect ecology and is based at the Athens campus.
Responsibilities
Build a nationally prominent, extramurally‑funded research program that complements existing strengths in the department (70% of time).
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in insect ecology, aquatic entomology, general entomology, insect natural history, or related areas (25% of time).
Mentor students at the undergraduate, M.S., and Ph.D. levels, with a strong commitment to engagement.
Contribute to departmental and university service.
Engage with departmental and college facilities, including the Georgia Museum of Natural History, the UGA Black Fly lab, and the CAES Research and Education Centers.
Participate in initiatives related to insect biodiversity/conservation, predator‑prey and plant‑insect interactions, and other elements identified by stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in Entomology, Ecology, or a related discipline.
Demonstrated training and expertise in field and empirical techniques in entomological, ecological and/or biological sciences.
Record of scholarly activity in peer‑reviewed journals and potential future success in acquiring external funding.
Preferred Qualifications
Postdoctoral research experience (1+ years).
Prior success in competitive funding.
Demonstrated teaching and mentoring experience (1+ years).
Engagement with professional societies and/or outreach.
Experience with aquatic and riparian insects, predator‑prey and plant‑insect interactions, insect biodiversity/conservation, and related disciplines.
Substantial involvement in professional activities, scientific societies, and outreach.
