Job Purpose The Expanded Function Dental Assistant with Restorative add-on works in a team-based, patient-centered dental clinic serving insured and uninsured clients with a special emphasis on care for people who experience barriers to accessing care due to income, language, cultural, and social barriers. This role provides chairside assistance and clinical duties to the Dentist, Dental Hygienist, and Dental Director.
Duties
Adhere to the spirit of Waterfall Community Health Center to remove barriers to care and our mission statement while performing assigned duties.
Demonstrate the core values of Integrity, Respect, Accountability, Compassion, Partnership, and Collaborative Communication.
Isolate appropriate teeth to be repaired by applying a rubber dam.
Prepares tooth for filling by placing matrix band with retainers if needed.
Cleans debris from cavities.
Prepares proper restorative materials such as amalgam and composite fillings.
Fills prepared tooth by using necessary hand instruments.
Carves, finishes, and polishes restorations using rotary and hand instruments to achieve proper anatomy.
Checks occlusion of the teeth before releasing the patient.
Perform routine equipment maintenance as assigned.
Prepare dental materials such as amalgam, composite, etc.
Perform and follow proper sterilization and infection control protocols.
Dental charting using an electronic medical record system (EMR).
Inventory control and management.
Assist the Dental Hygienist and front office staff as needed.
Place sealants, perform fluoride treatments, and coronal polish, take digital x-rays, and oral hygiene instructions.
Other related duties may be assigned by the Supervisor.
Education and/or Experience and Qualifications
Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA) Certification with Restorative Functions Add-On
1 year of chairside dental assisting experience.
Oregon Certificate of Radiologic Proficiency
Strong computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office software.
Excellent verbal and written communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) preferred.
Non-violent Crisis Intervention Comprehensive training class completed within 6 months of hire and recertify prior to the expiration date.
BLS certification obtained within 6 months of hire.
Immunizations Required
TB (test upon hire)
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk working at a computer.
Able to lift 15 pounds occasionally.
Able to travel as needed.
