What You’ll Be Doing Wake County Public Health is seeking a dynamic and experienced

Communicable Disease Manager

to lead and oversee its Communicable Disease Program. This leadership role is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating a range of public health initiatives, including disease surveillance, tuberculosis control, refugee health, and health education. The manager ensures the delivery of high-quality, compliant, and data‑driven services that protect and promote community health.

Key Responsibilities

Direct the strategic planning and daily operations of the Communicable Disease Program

Lead program areas including: Communicable disease surveillance, Tuberculosis control, Refugee health services, Disease Intervention services, and health and education outreach

Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal public health regulations

Analyze epidemiological data to identify trends and guide prevention and control strategies

Develop and monitor program goals, performance metrics, and timelines

Manage program budgets, grants, and contracts

Collaborate with healthcare providers, schools, long‑term care facilities, and government agencies

Lead and support multidisciplinary teams of clinical and non‑clinical staff including: Communicable Disease Surveillance Team, Tuberculosis and Refugee Health Clinic, Communicable Disease Quality Assurance Team, and Disease Intervention Specialists

NOTE : For Wake County Public Health employees, influenza immunization is a condition of initial and continued employment, subject to compliance with federal law. Employees actively support and participate in department emergency preparedness and response activities, which may include temporary changes in responsibilities and working hours.

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

Bachelor's degree

Five years of job‑related experience, including three years of supervisory experience

Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

Current NC Registered Nurse Licensure strongly preferred

North Carolina Credentialed Public Health Nurse

Technical expertise in communicable disease

Strong managerial skills with demonstrated leadership experience

Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills

Knowledge of compliance with local, state, and federal communicable disease laws and regulations

Communicable disease outbreak response knowledge

Experience with the North Carolina Electronic Disease Surveillance System (or applicable disease registry)

Strong problem‑solving skills

Ability to remain calm during high‑stress situations and adapt as circumstances change

About This Position Location: HSC Sunnybrook, Raleigh, NC 27610

Employment Type: Regular

Work Schedule: Mon‑Fri, 8:30 am – 5:15 pm

Hiring Range: $75,108 – $105,155

Market Range: $75,108.00 – $135,202.00
