THE ROLE SchoolKit is seeking part‑time Instructional Leadership Coaches in Tennessee to support our work with 6-12 school districts across the state. As a part‑time Instructional Leadership Coach, you will provide remote and onsite coaching to school and district leaders as they adopt and implement high‑quality instructional materials in 6-12 Literacy.

Coaches will use SchoolKit’s tools and approach to help leaders deepen their knowledge of 6-12 ELA and engage in instructional leadership activities (leading teacher planning, conducting observations and providing feedback, responding to student data, etc.) to strengthen teaching and learning in their buildings. Additionally, coaches will facilitate annual full‑ and half‑day trainings (remote and onsite) that are focused on evidence‑based practices for instruction in 6-12 ELA and HQIM implementation best practices.

Total time commitment for this school year will depend on a combination of district assignment(s) (may include multiple), training schedules, and coach availability, but is likely to include 18-20 onsite support days from March 1 - June, with additional virtual training and administrative time of around 30 hours per assignment. Time commitment for subsequent school years will be TBD.

RESPONSIBILITIES District Support (onsite)

Conduct walkthroughs and data analysis in advance of on‑site coaching

Provide direct coaching, conduct learning walks, and facilitate professional learning for school leaders

Complete required documentation (attendance, coaching logs, summaries) during onsite visits

Data Collection and Reporting (onsite)

Collect and summarize instructional data, provide written reflections on progress and needs, and participate in calibration to ensure the data is accurate and consistent

Strategic Planning and Progress Monitoring (onsite)

In collaboration with SchoolKit colleagues and District leaders, review data, set literacy goals, develop progress‑tracking plans, and guide teams in using evidence to determine the next steps

Training and Collaboration (virtual)

Complete SchoolKitCoach training

Maintain ongoing communication with partners

Attend virtual collaboration meetings and internal team calibration sessions

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS Instructional Leadership Coaches will be deeply knowledgeable about Tennessee’s research‑based vision for literacy instruction, systems‑level HQIM implementation, and the state’s English/Language Arts Instructional Practice Guide (IPG) and have a successful track record of coaching school leaders.

The ideal Coach candidate will have/demonstrate:

Strong working knowledge of secondary literacy and instructional best practices with a minimum of 3 years of experience in secondary literacy instruction, including providing support for multilingual learners, students with disabilities, and striving readers

Familiarity with the Tennessee English/Language Arts Instructional Practice Guide (IPG) and the HQIM Implementation Framework

Experience supporting HQIM implementation at the systems level—preferably with district stakeholders—including leading or advising district‑wide rollout, progress monitoring, and capacity‑building structures

Experience supporting HQIM implementation and using classroom walkthrough data to guide instructional improvement

Demonstrated success as a district or school leader, instructional coach, literacy specialist, or professional learning facilitator with responsibilities for strategic planning and progress monitoring

3-5 years of experience facilitating adult learning for school leaders with the demonstrated ability to balance modeling high‑quality instruction with developing others’ capacity

Professionalism, adaptability, and collaboration across multiple contexts

A commitment to equitable access to grade‑level literacy experiences for all students

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s Degree

3 years of experience in secondary literacy instruction

3 years of experience coaching school leaders

Ability to travel to provide on‑site district support

Able to independently move through classrooms and other public areas of a school building to provide on‑site district support

COMPENSATION The hourly pay range for this position will be between $55 - $75 per hour and is highly dependent on experience.
