Job Description What We Need YOU To Do:
The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency wants you to join our team as a solid waste engineer with the Division of Materials and Waste Management (DMWM) at our Northeast District Office in Summit County.
Looking for a solid (waste) position? We gotchu.
We are looking for a driven, detail‑oriented person to review engineering plans, technical documents, and permit applications for solid waste landfills and facilities to ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable state laws and regulations.
You’ll conduct engineering inspections and oversight of facility construction, with special attention to proper soil compaction and liner installation. You’ll prepare reports and correspondence summarizing inspection findings and develop strategies for bringing about compliance for facilities, as needed, including enforcement referrals.
You’ll participate in agency and division workgroups and enforcement cases and provide technical assistance to permittees, boards of health, government officials, and industry professionals regarding established solid waste management regulations and practices.
Responsibilities
Review design plans of solid waste facilities for engineering soundness and regulation compliance.
Oversee construction of solid waste facilities, particularly liner installations.
Prepare correspondence relative to permit compliance matters.
Provide technical assistance and outreach to associated industry and government officials.

Qualifications
ENGINEERING PREFERRED
12 months experience as Environmental Specialist 1, 85861.
OR 4 years training or 4 years experience in a position involving engineering (Sanitary, Geotechnical, Civil, Environmental, Agricultural or Chemical). Training & experience must be commensurate with duties to be assigned.
OR baccalaureate degree in engineering (Sanitary, Geotechnical, Civil, Environmental, Agricultural or Chemical).
