Position Summary

Responsible for assembling pieces of metal together or repairing damage in metal components using heavy machinery that emits high heat, melting the metal into shape. Duties include reviewing blueprints, cutting metal into the appropriate shape, and smoothing molten metal to remove creases.

Key Responsibilities

Analyze and diagnose equipment malfunctions.

Prepare required documentation including work orders, parts lists, and timecards accurately and timely.

Read and understand blueprints prior to starting a project.

Sourcing materials to be used in the project.

Measure and cut materials to specifications.

Weld materials using correct materials to join metals together.

Check finished work to ensure it falls within tolerances marked on the blueprints.

Perform assigned tasks in a timely, accurate, and efficient manner.

Follow manufacturer and company service guidelines and procedures to ensure safe, quality work and preserve and document component failure information for accurate failure analysis.

Maintain a safe working environment and observe all safety procedures, laws, policies, and rules.

Demonstrate math and measurement skills (tape measure, scale, calipers, fillet weld gauge).

Communicate with equipment manager and field managers in a manner that promotes a positive relationship.

Work overtime as needed and within labor law guidelines.

Operate heavy power-driven equipment.

Obtain forklift and boom lift certification.

Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Basic Qualifications

High school diploma/GED or equivalent.

Five (5) or more years of welding experience.

Valid driver’s license and ability to drive on behalf of company business.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred knowledge on the following topics:

Operational characteristics of a variety of heavy, power-driven equipment.

Maintenance requirements of heavy, power-driven equipment.

Methods and materials used in general construction and maintenance work.

Principles and techniques of field maintenance activities.

Traffic laws, ordinances, and rules involved in heavy equipment operation.

Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.

Welding machine set-up: Mig/Tig welding and hard facing of carbon; low alloy steels using solid and flux-cored wire; finishing of welds (chipping, grinding, sanding).

Fabricating carbon, stainless and low alloy steels; Blueprint Reading and Weld Symbols (AWS and ISO); weld joint prep; hand plasma and oxy/fuel torches.

Preferred safety training (not mandatory; company will provide additional training as necessary):

40 Hour HAZWOPER training.

Competent Person Safety Training.

8-Hour Supervisory Training.

30-Hour OSHA Construction Safety Training.

First Aid and CPR.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

This role requires lifting up to 50 pounds, extended standing or walking on project sites, climbing in and out of equipment, and working in confined spaces or at heights. Work conditions may vary, with possible exposure to heavy machinery, chemicals, dust, fumes, noise, and extreme weather. Proper PPE, including protective eyewear, gloves, a hard hat, and steel-toed boots, is required. Effective communication, tool use, and adherence to safety protocols are essential.
