Job Summary
Registered Nurse at North Mississippi Health Services Systems provides safe, quality patient care using the nursing process, maintains effective communication with the multidisciplinary team, and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements. The role requires leadership skills in prioritizing, delegating, evaluating work assignments, and effective problem‑solving to respond to changing patient needs.
Clinical Practice & Job Functions
Use the nursing process to provide safe, quality patient care and document accordingly.
Ensure compliance with all NMHS policies and requirements directed by the Nurse Manager and Educator.
Provide patient/family education and serve as a resource for existing staff and new employees.
Participate in the preceptor class to ensure proper training of new employees.
Maintain communication with multidisciplinary team members to provide holistic care to the patient.
Attend daily huddles on each unit to ensure proper assignments and identify team members for the shift.
Project a caring, friendly and helpful image to patients and other customers.
Utilize the patient’s communication board (white board) to identify name, date, goals, other staff and procedures or tests for the day to keep patients and families informed.
Comply with NMHS behavioral standards.
Maintain competency by staying informed of changing trends in nursing practice.
Attend annual review and unit-specific meetings within the department.
Perform required continuing education hours online and in classroom.
Comply with regulatory and accrediting agency requirements.
Be licensed by the board of Nursing for the state.
Qualifications Education
Associate’s Degree in Registered Nursing (required)
Complete RN Orientation and approved unit‑specific checklist requirements (required)
Licenses and Certifications
RN – State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
National Institute of Health Stroke Scale Certification (NIH)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Maintain department requirements for continuing education and any specific unit requirements.
Have effective communication and teaching skills.
General knowledge of regulatory and accrediting standards.
Prioritize, delegate, and evaluate work assignments.
Anticipate resources needed.
Assimilate data and report appropriately.
Orients new employees to the unit and reports progress to charge nurse or nurse manager.
Maintain effective interpersonal skills with patients, families, visitors, and coworkers.
